4D3N BARIO HIGHLAND
Day 01: Miri – Bario (D)
Embark onto the plane from Miri to Bario using MASWING airline with a sitting capacity of 19 seats. It takes about 50 minutes to land on a cute cozy Bario airport. There are no public buses neither taxi. Mostly Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD) vehicles are suits due to the road condition, carrying goods and etc. Embark on the 4WD vehicle waiting outside the airport for a ride of 20 minutes to a village called Pa Umor. Along the way, you will pass through padi fields, trees, blue mountains, residential houses, and government offices. Upon arriving at the homestay, your local tour guide will introduce you to the family members before checking into your private room. The bathroom and toilet are located just outside the house walking down the wooden steps. There is no high-rise bed but comfortable mattress, pillow, blanket, bedsheet and mosquito net are provided on the floor. Take a short rest before the start of your first tour (No lunch provided). In the afternoon, put on your walking shoes, bring along a small backpack with a bottle of drinking water and wear long pants. The tour starts by walking on foot passing the residential houses, padi field, pineapple farm and into the forest takes about 15 minutes’ walk from the homestay. You can spot some pitcher plants growing inside the forest, wild ferns and some fruit trees (if it’s the season) before you arriving at Arur Bilit. It is an open space that used to be a padi field with stonecrop called Batu Narit Arur Bilit (local name) it's curved stone (4meter high & 4.2 meters wide). The tour guide will tell you the history of this rock. It will be a bonus if you spot a few Water Buffaloes grazing freely in the village vicinity. On the way, you will stop at a pineapple farm. Your tour guide will show you how the pineapples are grown and the use of it leave. Some leaves growing in the area can be used to weave floor mat, basket, Sunhat, coaster and many more. If it coincides with the fruits season, you will stop at a farm to pick some fruits. By around 1600hrs, walk back the same route to your homestay. If weather permits, you can watch the sunset from an open verandah of your homestay. A dinner will be served in the homestay. After dinner, your tour guide will tell you the history of how Bario got its a name and its people.
Day 02: Bario (B/PL/D)
Wake up by the sound of birds, cockerels & chicks starting the day, dog bark and cool breezy morning.
Your breakfast is prepared by the homestay family. Next, you are on for another trip and put on your trekking shoes. This trip will take you on trekking to a Prayer Mountain known for its stories. The trip starts by getting onto a 4WD vehicle with a ride of 20-minute to a village called Arur Dalan. On arrival, you are requested to sign the visitor’s book with your name and country before the start of the climbing. Beside the box, is a donation box which every visitor is to contribute at any amount. The donation money is used to maintain the mountain trail and the summit. This morning, you will start walking from the foothill (320metre / 2.3km) to reach the summit. Along the way, one will see some ropes tie to the trees for your support as you make the way up. It takes about 2 hours or more (depend on your fitness) to reach the Mountain top. It will be a bonus if you spot some hornbill flying above the valley canopy. At the midway, there stand an old wooden church build by the locals many years ago. A stop for a rest after the half climb. Your tour guide will explain about this church. Leave your packed lunch behind that have prepared by your homestay 30 minutes from the church (depend on your fitness). At the top of the Summit, an Iron Cross was standing. It can be seen with faint light during the night. You will see the whole valley of Bario. Enjoy the breath-taking before heading down the same route to the church. Enjoy your pack lunch inside the wooden church. Have an ample rest before continuing your journey down to the foothill. The 4WD is waiting and continue your trip to visit 2 different schools (Primary - Junior and Secondary- Upper). Behind the school, there is a hill that used to be the old site for a school build in the 1960s. Walking up to the hilltop view the surrounding. If weather permits, do watch the colorful sunset. Later embark on the 4WD vehicle for a return to your homestay. Your dinner will be served at the homestay and Bon Appetit before you rest for the night.

Day 03: Bario (B/PL/D)
Breakfast at the homestay to energize for a new adventure. Put on your trekking shoes and bring along your pack lunch cooked by homestay family. You are going to visit the site of Salt Spring where Bario Salt is processed locally. Starting-off from the Homestay to a suspension bridge then passing through the village to the old site onto a mini hill. Along the way is cover with padi field passing some stunted shrub, pitcher plants and wild orchids growing selectively to the soil type. Arriving at the salt processing center, you will see 2 different buildings (one is modern / one is the original since the start of this Salt). Sometime, you will be able to see a family doing the processing of this Salt (no guarantee). Your guide will explain how salt is processed and history. We encourage tourists to purchase a stick or two packed salts as a souvenir for family members/friends back home. This is pure and authentic Bario Salt. Enjoy your pack lunch while listening to your tour guide storytelling. By late afternoon, walk back the same route and a stop at the Wild Orchid Sanctuary. If weather permits on this day, you may take a dip in the river after a long walk. Relax and take a show before going for dinner. On this evening, a dinner served will be served at the nearby Longhouse.
Day 04: Bario – Miri (B)
Good Morning - Selamat Pagi (in Malay). Your Breakfast is served at the Homestay. Selamat Jalan – Goodbye to your new friends. Embark on the same 4WD vehicle going through the same route to the same airport for an onward destination to Miri City.
REMARK: Bario has 24hrs electricity. The homestay has no hot shower. The Internet line is weak due to the Mountain coverage. This trip can be done into 3Days/2Nights.
