The Safe Heaven for Turtles
The largest turtle conservation project in Sabah is located around 40 kilometres north of Sandakan. Around 1740 hectares in size, Selingan Island, Bakungan Kecil Island, and Gulisan Island make up the protected area for turtle conservation. For the critically endangered green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) species, it is a significant nesting place. To see the amazing start of the turtle’s life cycle, however, only Selingan island is accessible to the general public.
The pristine Selingan Turtle island is a perfect environment for your children to witness one of the nature’s greatest phenomenons. In fact, it is one of the few destination in the world where turtles arrive 365 days of the year.
